A bit of history
It was the ancient community called S. Giovanni a Pompeggiano and testified in the early 1200s with its very ancient church of San Giovanni (1249).
Small autonomous Comunello saw among the noble families who owned on site, in addition to the Petroni family, the Tolomei and the Tarugi (branch of the Bishop of Arezzo origin). This town then, around 1500, changed its name from Villa San Giovanni to Ville Petroni and its church from S. Giovanni to Santa Lucia. The church of Santa Lucia, whose remains are still visible, was later joined in 1569 to that of S. Stefano in Sovignano.
In 1692, the farms in this locality were still owned by Petroni, but in 1746 they had passed to the nuns of San Lorenzo. The "Comunello di Ville Petroni" also ceased in 1809.
